Regarding the subject of meters. The drawing that was posted would allow the AC voltage flow through the bridge rectifier, thus maintaining flow through the circuit at the same time give directional flow in the meter so the meter indicates stable reading. But what will be an issue is delicate movement spring that can only sustain fractional current flow instead of total that the drawing suggests
