    Battening walls

Hi I’ve got 3 different types of wall to batten. Just wondering what the best approach is going to be (mainly which wood to get) Wall 1: Batten wall on single skin brick to hold 100mm insulation for garage conversion. From reading round the forums it seems 50x100 c16 is the way to go. Wall 2...

Hi, I have a uneven ceiling that i plan on battening with 50x25mm roofing battens and then screw 9.5mm plasterboard reading for skimming. Can someone tell me if I need to batten along the length of each joist and pack out or is it better to fasten the battens perpendicular the joists and pack...

    Battening Plasterboard

I'll be plaster boarding my new extension next month. In another thread I posted on here, it seemed the general consensus was to batten rather than D&D. The walls are all flat and plumb and it does make it easier running conduit and pipework behind. I have since been very lucky to secure about...

Cladding, vent, gap... what thickness battens to use

I read a few different views on the thickness of the battens to use for attaching cladding to a solid brick built building. I was under the impression that 25x50 roofing lats are the norm, but the last couple of posts I've read say the battens should be 2 or 2.5 the thickness of the cladding...

I have to install the TLX silver multifoil which specified to have 38mm thick batten but impossible to source on my area with only available in 25x50mm. have you had any issues like that? How can this be solved? The 25mm is to thin and not enough air gap is left to let the multifoil work. Thanks

Garage Batten - flickering LED's now I have replaced Fluro.

Yesterday I replaced one of my 2 Fluro battens in my garage with a 60W LED. This was the more complicated one (lots of wires) or so I thought but I had it working fine after a little patience. Today I have gone to replace the second fluro and what I thought would be a simple job - only 3 wires...

    Batten bounce prevention when nailing

Hi, i had several tile breakages yesterday due to battens bouncing when nailing in clout nails. My battens are 38x19 and have been counter battened. Requirements are two clout nails per tile on vertical tiling? Screwing would be easier but believe it's not correct to do so. Any handy tips for...

    Mouldy battens

Some of the new battens have got black mould on them. I thought they should be treated to prevent that. Will they be ok behind the tiles once dry or should I remove them or spray with 5star fungicide? I don't want to cover over if going to be a problem in future. Thanks

    Gate Support Post not Vertical

Hi all, I am putting in a new gate which is between 2 brick built posts. Neither of the posts have been built vertical so there is a bigger gap at the bottom than the top if the gate is vertical. The gate will be supported by 2 wooden post fixed to the either brick post. Question is.... should...
