Hey folks,
Looking for a few ideas on an exposed beam in my bathroom.
Weve recently vaulted our bathroom ceiling and exposed a wooden beam. Part of the beam that was in the loft area is darker and aged, however the part of the beam that was under the ceiling in the corner of the house was...
Hi,
Hoping someone can help with this.
I’ve just had a wooden worktop fitted by B&Q and after it has been oiled, I’ve notice a knot (hole) in the surface.
The fitter has said it’s really common and just to leave it. Does it need filled? Should it be there in the first place?
Thanks
I want to fill the gap between a slate hearth, and a floating engineered oak wooden floor.
We have a wood burner, and ash has a tendency to find its way into the gap.
How should the gap be filled please?
Thanks
Hello
any advise on how to repair those pillar's and prevent future damage ? they are solid oak but are rotting from the bottom up.
I was thinking of putting some acrow's then cutting the pillars where the rot is and dig up a hole and fill with concrete and use something like this ? there's...
We have one external which is “fake” Elizabethan timber framed with exposed oak and white infill panels. These infill panels appear to be some sort of fibre board which has been rendered and then painted it – almost looks like compressed straw – but I assume it is something else. What is this...
I know the fashion is for pale/nude oak, but I love the golden brown of British character oak!
So, I need the voice of experience please...
I have two new sanded french oak boards. I usually use tung oil. The test result is very pale and light, a touch greyish, not really bringing the wood to...
Hi All,
Had an oak banister installed by carpenter. He filled main bits with this Ronseal light oak filler. Said i had to do the rest as they dont fill every hole.
Anyways i brought the same filler and started filling any holes etc. Sanded it back and applied Ronseal Light Oak Satin Varnish...
Bit of a long shot.....we had a Wickes kitchen installed about 10 years ago. The shaker style by the 'Calgary' name is apparently no longer available. Assuming the (same?) manufacturers still supply the same or very similar style by other retail channels, can anyone - based on experience -...
Hi
I've got an engineered wood oak floor, brushed and oiled finish. There are various marks where coffee / red wine / god knows what has been spilled on it and not cleaned up quickly enough.
If I rub and rub at these marks they pretty much come off but it leaves a patch that is lighter than the...
I am looking for a desk that fits my home office.
My plan so far is to buy the top and the legs and then bolt the legs on.
I am not planning to use a frame!
My concern is that the desktop might warp with time. I don't plan to put anything heavy - just a screen, laptop, maybe a plant.
Here are...
Hello everyone. Looking for some help with my wooden worktops. We had a new kitchen with oak worktops installed in February. The worktop was oiled with 3 coats and looked amazing. Enter my girlfriend and some bleach... The resultant inch long black mark was right dead centre so needed to go! I...
Hi there,
I'm renovating my Tudor house and working on the floor in one room which needs completely replacing. I have purchased new oak boards which are 3/4" thick and 8" wide square edge which will be fitted directly onto the existing joists.
I don't really want to screw them down as i'm...
Evening,
Just wanted bit of advice about fitting wooden upstand to an oak countertop. I've tried sticking it to the wall using fast grip silicone but even after bracing it and leaving it overnight when I remove the bracing some bits 'ping' away from the wall.
The upstand is a nice bit of oak...
Hi, I'm looking to get some oak veneer doors (B&Q, but any other recommendations welcome). My question is, do I HAVE to finish them? Can I just leave them as is?
thanks
I have applied a first coat of ronseal Danish oil to my breakfast bar but it looks a lot darker than I hoped. Is there any way of lightening up the look of the wood either before or when I add further coats?
Thanks in advance
Just had a new stylish oak front door fitted and the beading for the windows is on the outside. Is this right as it seems a bit odd despite the supplier saying it is ok and that it has been fitted correctly.
Door also has "face" stickers on the outside of the glass.
See pictures below...
