Hello,
I have attempted to lay my extension sand and cement screed. On the whole it is not a total disaster however it is 20mm higher in one corner (in comparison to the opposite corner 5 metres away).
Is there any way I can sand/grind this section down?
Unfortunately self levelling compound...
Hi - I’ve built a suspended block and beam terrace to sit below patio doors.
Plan is to tile onto this using same tiles as inside - 900x600x25 limestone tiles and tiles will end up flush with doorstep.
I’ve built a fall away from house into the block and beam but not sure it’s enough (it’s...
We have opened up an old fireplace in an upstairs bedroom (it’s a Victorian house) and we’re now prepping the room for new skirting boards and carpet, but need to fix the hearth area first.
I assume I need to lift out the remnants of the crumbly old hearth surround first, but how do I create a...
We've had a bit of a nightmare with getting a floor that is suitable for a level finish (carpet tiles in our case) which has dragged on since August.
Our extension, internal dimensions 9.7m by 5.1m, has a block and beam construction. The room is going to hold a full size snooker table at one...
Hello
My garage floor already is already concrete. I want to put 100mm PIR Insulation and was told to put 50mm screed on top.
I need to put a bit more, as in 100mm screed. is this ok or will it be too heavy?
Or can i put 150mm pir insulaton and then 50mm screed?
Suggest i put on concrete...
Hello
is there a rule for the maximum thickness of screed i should use?
My garage conversion has around 20cm concrete. I am going to put 100mm PIR insulation on top of the DPM. how thick can i apply the screed? 50mm?
Hi
I’ve just pulled up the carpet and underlay in the dining room before some new wood flooring goes down next week and found that a piece of screed in the corner of the room is badly cracked / damaged.
The piece looks like it’s separated from the rest of the screed and I can push it down...
Hi all,
I’m looking for advice on a particularly tricky situation we’re having with our cellar (end of terrace 1880s Victorian house).
We moved in 7 years ago and although everything in the cellar was slightly raised (insinuating there may have been previous flooding), we didn’t have any...
I have had a new flow screed put down in my extension.
It was a cementitious screed, that went down as a liquid, with a fully tanked membrane underneath. It was a couple of months ago so it is fully dry but obviously I will be checking this before putting flooring down.
The screed has a very...
I am in the process of converting my 8.5m x 3m garage into a home workshop. The floor is old concrete and dips ~25mm in the middle.
My plan so far was:
- fix up any cracks and dodgy bits in the current concrete floor
- lay a liquid dpm
- finish with a self levelling compound
I spoke to...
Hi,
All the answers to questions I see which ask about when you can walk on screed after laying, typically say 24-48 hours (or as little as 12 for a special type).
But this is described as being for ‘light traffic’.
I just want to walk over mine ONCE. The floor is 4.6m across.
So, never...
Hi,
My extension floor is currently having screed put down over 150mm Celotex insulation. I don't know the thickness, but it would be a few cm of screed I'd say.
We have a cat - he has already tried to get over the wet screed whilst it was in progress. I understand that screed dries about a...
Hello, I have taken out radiators in several of our ground floor rooms (will be replaced with an overlay underfloor heating system). There are several lengths of trenches in the screed where the radiator pipes used to run. They are lined with a metal track. What do I need to do to make good on...
Evening all,
I'm installing insulation on my concrete slab ready for UFH and a 50mm liquid screed.
I think I'll need to install a very thin sand blinding to flatten out the slab a bit, however I can't find anywhere what sand to use above concrete.
I ask this because there is a DPM below the...
I am somewhat out of my depth with a house renovation and would massively appreciate some advice regarding the kitchen floor...
There has been subsidence at some point in the house and the concrete kitchen floor was uneven to the tune of around 50mm from high end to low end. I ripped off the...
Hi,
I've been a plumber (not heating engineer) for 9 years now and finally bought my first home. As my first project, I decided to install a warm water UFH system.
I've decided on Mapei Latexplan Trade for the screed which will be aprox 20mm thick. The data sheet states max 11mm per coat...
Hi all,
I'm currently going through an extension build. It's 56 sqm to be used as a kitchen / utility / dining area.
We had poured screed put down on the 4th August. It had something added to it to promote quick drying (could be walked on in 48 hours).
It has wet UFH underneath it.
The...
I am currently renovating my kitchen and am looking for some advice in how to screed over a cavity. A section of the old screed layer has broken up around the edge of the patio door threshold. At the moment, there is a dpm under the patio door overlapping the cavity and meeting the main dpc...
I had underfloor heating fit 18 months ago and LVT tiles. The tiles were stuck down incorrectly byu the fitter when they were supposed to be click. They have warped and need removing. Upon lifting the LVT the screed underneath is blown. How can I rectify the blown screed to fit new LVT?
The new...
