Hi, we have a Worcester 24i RSF-L combi with an intermittent problem. Sometimes it just doesn't work, no hot water or heating.

A CH engineer came out and eventually changed the fan at the top after he removed the long clear pipe coming from the fan, blew down it and the boiler started up. He thought the fan wasn't sending the pressure down the pipe to switch it on. This seemed to work, but it actually just carried on stopping every now and then anyway.

We've been in the house less than a year and the previous owner said the boiler was all good and had had an 'entirely new brain' fitted by her, by which she meant the PCB, although we have no receipts.

When working there is always the problem of having to run the hot water on full to get the boiler to start heating it, or even running the shower and tap together the get the sink tap to start heating up in the bathroom. When working the shower does heat up on it's own, probably a high flow of water required though. Once it's started heating it's usually ok.

When it goes off, the only thing we can do is set the heating to on and leave it. This seems to work eventually, but if it comes on in the night or when you're out it's a pain as you can't stop it.

I'm not keen on just throwing money at it if it's a bottomless pit. I feel like the boiler is generally still good (CH Eng said the burners are looking good etc..)

But our CH eng doesn't know what to do now, can anyone suggest what the problem could be please, we'd really appreciate it.

Cheers, I'm not actually sure how old it is, over ten years I imagine.

If it helps I can have a look for a date on it somewhere, might needs some advice on where to find one because I can't find anything other than various codes.

Yeah, you're right it's a 24i RSF-L combi. Still haven't found a date on it but I'm guessing a while back.

They were produced between 1997 and 2004 iirc.

I’m a believer in fixing I possible but these are really getting on now.

Had quite a lot of intermittent faults relating to pcbs in past

Cheers I agree, too many things scrapped but it's way up the overall costs.

Worcester charge £275 all in this includes parts and it’s a guaranteed fix.

So are you saying £275 for a new pcb? That isn't fitted of course too. Thing is I'm sure the pcb has been changed, worrying if it's gone again!

I’m saying 275 all in to fix it
So if that’s a pcb , fan and aps all fitted for 275
Wb will def fix it, it’s a very easy boiler to fix

Flow pressure switch fault...? Needing masses of flow to get the thing to fire up on hw..?

On something that old a call to worcester is the correct call probably...
