Hi there! Grrr, something flew off a passing flatbed truck and smacked into my front right foglight. Whatever it was totalled the light but thankfully didn't impact the bodywork. The question now is how to go about repairs, so I thought I'd pop here to get a little advice before ringing garages' and insurance.

Could anyone give me a rough idea what an independent garage might charge for the repair + parts? It looks to me like a (simple..) light module replacement and a new lens cover/mount? I'm in the south east. I've already looked at repairing it myself and it looks doable but it's my mums car and currently I'm not around to consider doing it. She gets her mot and service at the local Honda garage but they might be a lot more expensive than need be especially if the insurance say it might be best shouldering the cost ourselves.

Any advice much appreciated.

The corrosion suggests the damage is quite old, or at least the unit has leaked for some considerable amount of time. It should be an easy fix, and likely parts can be sourced cheap from a car scrap yard. It may involve bumper removal. Until fixed, it would be an MOT fail.

I don't know where you're based, but I was in the scrapyard on Saturday at Derby and they had two Civics in. Just checked the breaking list they have published online and they are 2006 and 2007 plates.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've been checking parts prices and the official Honda replacement is indeed extortionate imo, £250.

I'm considering giving the repair a go myself using an after market or used official one. They seem to be available for around the £60 mark. I've checked a few yt videos and they seem to suggest that removing the bumper to get at the light might be needed. Another mentioned that the light might be able to be more simply removed by unscrewing 2 bolts located directly under the light, through 2 holes in the chassis? If anyone knows which method is needed or has any advice on changing the fog light on this model civic, I'd really appreciate hearing it.

Not done 1 of this model, but generally it's a bumper off job. If so it's not an end of the world job. Just take your time. Some of the screws may be a challenge of course
