I’m not against a trade deal with the EU. Perhaps we could call it something like, I don’t know - just off the top of my head, 'The common market'. It’s all the other shît that comes with it - following their laws, allowing their citizens unfettered access to the U.K. etc. Why? We just want to sell and buy stuff from them and for them to sell and buy stuff from us. Do any other countries around the world that we have trade deals with make our laws and allow the citizens from both countries the freedom to come and go, work and live in each trade partners countries?Negotiate a sensible trade deal if starmer has the balls to do it.

Yes, red tape has been slashed for australia and new zealand visa requirements, and India is holding out for a better deal on precisely that basis.I’m not against a trade deal with the EU. So, are you saying that they don’t need a visa to work in the UK and can just turn up and work legally just like the EU citizens could?Yes, red tape has been slashed for australia and new zealand visa requirements, and India is holding out for a better deal on precisely that basis.

Im saying that its part and parcel of post brexhit trade deals to allow workers to come here. It was also part of brexhit that over two million eu nationals were given settled status, they dont need a visa and can come and go when they like including relying on our health care system. Taking back control is an illusion, ask them in NI. If I were a brexiteer I would smell a conspiracy by the tory elite on that one.So, are you saying that they don’t need a visa to work in the UK and can just turn up and work legally just like the EU citizens could?

So that’s a 'No' then.Im saying that its part and parcel of post brexhit trade deals to allow workers to come here. No, in many cases visas are a stepping stone to permanent residence, we’ll see more of that from the eu as well as the trade deal countries. It was so much simpler in the eu though. So that’s a 'No' then.
Nothing wrong with visas - it was the unlimited access that I objected to. If we have a job that can’t be filled internally and we have to bring someone in, that’s exactly what I had to do over 40 years ago when I worked abroad. No, in many cases visas are a stepping stone to permanent residence, we’ll see more of that from the eu as well as the trade deal countries. The eu system was flexible and met business’s needs. Freedom of movement worked both ways. Is there any difference economically between importing a german car and importing a german worker. Both bring benefits. If i thought for a moment we would be building german standard cars etc after brexhit i could have seen myself voting to leave. But its immeasurably weakened out economy. Giving over 2 million eu workers greater rights of settlement than under freedom of movement and destroying our share of European free trade is economically incontinent. A bloke with a clipboard in Whitehall deciding whether or not to give a visa to an Australian sheep shearer doesn't change that.Nothing wrong with visas - it was the unlimited access that I objected to.
