I have a 1998 Renault Clio 1.2 Biaritz Mk1(b) who's engine has developed a habit of roaring when you go above 30mph or 3rd gear. The car is a RHD (UK) model and the noise sounds as if it is coming from the passenger side of the engine (left hand side of car). 5th gear is fine.
I am trying to figure out if it is the clutch slipping, or the transmission not fully engaging 3rd or 4th gears. Could it even be the throttle not being tight enough? I haven't noticed the petrol running out any sooner and the roar doesnt seem to be coinciding with any oil lights coming on or be the result of the road surface or weather.
It has been doing this for a few weeks now and I would like an idea of what might be causing it before i go to a mechanic.
Any help anyone can provide will be greatly apppreciated.
