2 way switch question

If I do this like the instructions say will it allow me to turn on the light from upstairs and shut it off from downstairs? If so what is a 3way then? I have a single switch upstairs and want to be able to add one downstairs and then be able to turn it off and on from either up or downstairs any time. Thanks in advance for the help!

Yes if you follow the instructions you will be able to turn a light on upstairs and off from downstairs (and vice versa)

As far as light switches go there is no 3 way if a third switch is required you have to have an "intermeadiate" switch

to wire in an extra switch for the same light you need to run a 3 core and earth cable from the first switch to the new switch
this is how its done, (5th drawing down) but if you are not in the U.K your cable colours may be different
