My home which was built in 1964 I have a 3-way circuit that I had previously changed out the switches and it has not worked correctly since then, I removed all the wiring from both switches and had several diagram's to work from and can't get it to work. I have in each switch box 1 black, 1 green, 1 yellow wire.(my color codes for my house are horribly wrong for some reason)both black wires are hot. Please somebody help me get this thing working. I worked when I bought the house 3 years ago and now im selling and need to get it to work again. Thanks in advance.

how do you know the black wires are hot?

and do you have any idea what the other wires do?

the first thing that I would check is the switch that you removed, if you still have it. Look at the metal on the old switch. Some have a small metal tab that you can remove with a pair of pliers which allows the current to stop at the switch. Compare it to the new one and see if that is the problem.
