hi all,

quick question: I'm reading about the right to light rule of thumb when applying for planning permission and there's a lot of contradictory information out there. can anyone help with two questions?

1. I read that for single story extensions, the 60 degree rule applies. for two stories extensions, the 45 degree rule applies. is this correct?

2. is it true that building within permitted development constraints (let's say 3m extension behind a terraced house) removes the need to comply with whatever rule (45/60) is relevant?

thanks

I think you need to get yourself a designer, yes there are rules but a designer can help you alleviate any issues

What applies depends on your council's specific planning policies.

Permitted development is permitted.

The right to light is Common Law and can be actionable despite of any planning regulations
