Hi all,

The engine will start first time every time no problem and runs smooth & quiet.
When you rev the car it sounds like there is a rev limiter cutting in at about 3000
revs and it just fluctuates around there and seems to get worse as the engine gets
up to running temperature.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Tony

Does the engine seem to be misfiring at these revs?

These engines suffered with HT failure after 20,000 miles or so, due to HT leads arcing on the head. If you check the HT leads you may find that they have hardened off or gone hard around the plug. Fit a new set of HT leads and recheck the running then. You would also be advised to replace the sprk plugs as well, see if there is what looks like a pencil line down the ceramic. 8) :P

There is an engine rev limiter fitted to this engine and it is in the EEC engine management unit set at approx 6250 rpm or thereabouts.

If the H T leads are arcing(tracking)you will hear distinctive cracking noises, it is a lot easier to spot the sparks in the dark.

Good Luck, Dave

Unfortunately the HT leads and plugs on this engine are situated in the centre of the 16v head below the cam covers so you will not see the leads arcing at the base by the spark plugs.

If they were fitted to the side of the head and exposed this would be true.

sorry colin......my mistake was thinking of cvh engine.

Good Luck, Dave
