In March 2024 Russia occupies 102,000 sq KMs of Ukraine
In the whole of 2023 Russia gained 450 sq kms - ie virtually nothing

Russia Ukraine. There does appear to have been some past agreement about Ukraine between Russia and the US. Probably what their initial chats were about. Capturing all of Ukraine would need a more conventional war than what was used. Loads of bombing first. An early diplomatic solution based on areas within Ukraine and a vote may have proved interesting. Instead US comment "prevent Russia from ever doing this sort of thing again" once they had attacked. Russia has lots of it's kit at the boarder so go in or withdraw them? There are still forecasts concerning how long Russia can carry on with what it's currently doing. Recent Biden comments - all that money spent and stop supporting Ukraine now? What a waste. Trump - pass.
Take on Russia or China directly war wise and a country may find themselves facing both.

It would be highly wryly amusing to watch America elect Trump to the White House in November...and his acceptance speech from the maximum security jail where he'd be if the DoJ does it's job. Far-right Republicans don't care what this will do to Amerca's image and its reputation around the world - handing Russia, China and Iran a PR gift that will be exploited to the maximum affect.
