Clicked on a notification here and taken to mymobilechoices.com where I'm being offered an iphone6 for free. Never seen such a thing on diynot before- is it a SCAM????

On the right it tells you who posted the last message but I have just realised that the thread has been re-directed to another forum. Probably the Scam forum. :D

This is what appeared:

Edit: I should have said that the notification appeared when I clicked on an 'Alert'.

Was this "Alert" one of the banners at the top?

That's the most likely reason for it, some of these ads (which are not controlled by DIYnot) can sometimes be a bit iffy & you should never click on anything that says "Alert" and words as such unless your 100% positive that its a real alert etc. If in the place of an advert then its just there to catch you out.

Have you claimed your prize yet? lol

p.s. with Freecycle don't forget to add Freegle too :)

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced similar? Have you scanned your computer bolo? It is certainly not something we would put in place, it could have been a banner as mattlylad suggested, but this would/should redirect you to a new page and not cause a popup message like that.

I had the same thing a couple of days ago. I just closed the tab as soon as a I saw it was "lucky winner" pop up.

I have never seen that here. Possibly because I am always signed on, possibly because I have pop-up blocking and ad blocking turned on. On some sites, including I think some newspapers and news sites, I get these popups, and after trying cookie blocking, I sometimes set them to tools/internet options/security/restricted sites. Luckily I don't see it often. Plumbworld is one site that does it.

What internet security package do you use, and when did you last update and scan?

It's an iPad John. No extra security.

Edit: block pop ups and show dodgy websites both switched on.
