I have a 1500 watt,120 volt, smoker grill and it gets to 300 degrees and I would like to reduce it sometimes to 220/230 degrees. Can this be done reasonably and safely? thanks senorharv

its a bit more than your average lighting dimmer is going to handle.

a stage type dimmer would probablly do it (assuming its a simple resistive load) but unless you can get it throwout that will be expensive

the normal way to control tempreature is by on-off thermostats not reducing the power output while on

You want something called a simmer stat, its not dimming, more like intermitantly on and off, if that makes sense, the duty cycle of the load is adjusted as you adjust the temperature
