Adding a thread to a wooden beam?

Hello,

I am looking to add a thread to a wooden beam. This beam runs parallel along my floor and I would like to add the thread so that I can screw in and out certain components.

Does anyone know what the best kind of thing to use would be? I believe something Metal would be what im looking for. The thread size would me M8 or M10, I wouldn't really be too fussed.

Do you mean vertically down into the joist? How deep do you want your hole?

Yes I believe it would be vertically.

I want it about 40mm deep, just enough for the fixing and the thread to pass through.
