Does anyone have experience and advise on a good and cheap home insurance to use while house under renovation and vacant.

tried few quotes online on gocompare etc.etc. but when selecting home under some work the website go mad and does not allow for any quote.

I understand they are some company that specializes on this kind of insurance.

Any suggestion is well appreciated

Thanks

I didn’t know there was such a category. AFAIK you have to state whether it will be unoccupied for more than 30 days. If it’s under renovation, it won’t be unoccupied for more than 30 days will it?

That's where I'm missing myself on the English translation. I will not be living in the house during the renovation but still around all day carrying out the work. Do they consider the house occupied or vacant in this case or not?

Good and cheap, these contradict each other,

A "standard" house holders insurance will not cover you, there are specialist insurers who will insure building / renovation work.

Speak to a local insurance broker who will ( or should ) know which insurers will cover your project. That is what we did when we built our house.

I don't know anyone local. Any suggestion on what you used?

I don't know anyone local.

Where is "local" ? We used a broker about 20 miles from home and ( if I recall correctly ) the insurance company was based in Sussex

GoCompare is a business that takes commission from the insurances companies. The better insurance companies such as NFU Mutual do not deal with GoCompare.

It might be that NFU Mutual may offer you insurance for your project, they are not cheap but as long as you are honest with them they will provide very good cover. https://www.nfumutual.co.uk/contact-us/

Thanks I will contact them and see what they offer

While waiting for the suggested company to cameback to me. I found Towergate insurance which let me do a quote online. I got a premium of £480 for 6 months covering unaccpopancy and renovation for 15k work only cosmetic. This seems very high to me. How much you paid for your insurance?

Cheap?

It`s £500 over 6 months and only covering basic like fire, lightning, water damage

No idea how this things works and would be appreciated to understand what should be the minimum cover to be included on the premium. This would help me to better evaluate the best offer.

paid no where near that mine was £80 for building insurance and £30 broker fee...for 1 year did you use their online calculator

no ...buildings, public liability and employers liability. Thought about adding contents but most materials i buy are used straight away, i let any trade employed make their own mind up and i'm lucky there is no rear access to my property so theft would be difficult.
