AEG Hob - Appliance Fuses

Hi all,

3 rings turned on our AEG electric hob last night and then suddenly stopped working. Guessing it's the fuse, but the 13A fused spur was fine. Annoyingly the appliance is plugged in (and fused) behind fitted kitchen units with no access other than via a saw... Whilst I dig my saw out, thought I'd sound out the community to see if it's common for the fuse in the appliance plug to go rather than the fused spur?

Are you sure there is no supply to the hob. Even a neon driver on the cable could tell you if there is, in which case the fuse in the plug has not gone. 50- 50 chance of either fuse blowing on overload but they can also age which if the spur was installed long before before the plugged in hob, ie is much older, then perhaps the chance of that one blowing is higher.
 
Hi jj - thanks for the reply. I've taken the back of the units off and it was the appliance plug. Fuse blowing has created a small hole (see photos):

Is this a DIY job, i.e. reconnect wires to a new plug and new fuse and go steady with the hob? Or best to hold off and get an electrician round to see if there's an issue with connections/socket installation?
 
A 13 amp plug on a electric hob is a little unusual, check the rating of the hob. The hob might need to be hard-wired to the mains.

You do not tell us the model so I can't look for the installation requirements. As tricky dicky has said it might be best to get an electrician to check that the hob has been installed correctly. Hopefully it is just a faulty plug.
 
Thanks @jj4091 and @Tricky-Dicky. Appreciate your help with this. Model number is HK624010FB. Replaced the plug and hob seems to be working OK again. Hopefully the 13A fuse is sufficient!
 
The stupidity of both a FCU and fused plug shows itself. You never know which fuse will blow.

But in your case neither should be there as the hob is well over 13 amps. Get a sparks to wire it properly.
