Up untill recently i was a labourer/groundworker and i struggled to get work other than through an agency, Often firms would try to take me on but when the agency threatened them with a poaching fee it all fell through.
I hated working for an agency, Non of the percs of being self employed, and none of the perks of being on the books.
Ive now had a firm take me on as a trainee ceiling fitter and was wondering if the "proper" trades had the same issue with having to get a start via an agency.

i've learned the building trade via a time served traditional method.

started labouring for a small self employed builder aged 15 (me not, not the builder) and got involved in all the trades bar electrics and heating.

since being self employed i have mostly worked for private individuals and not sub-contract either.

so i've never had the pleasure of working via agency's and have never worked on a building site either, thank god.
