Hi,

I'm trying to remove the cartridge on this exposed shower mixer, but I can't for the life of me figure out what comes off next. I've removed the flow control handle and the little grub screw inside. I'm thinking I need to unscrew the outer chrome ring where the flow handle was connected, but it won't move when turning left. I thought maybe the cartridge just pulls out from here, but don't want to try that without checking with someone who has experience of these things.

Any advice is appreciated

Look like it's all full of scale, you need to use a limescale eater on that first. Once the grub screw is removed then the outer/inner temp ring would either screw or pull off (from the tight fitting I would suggest the latter, may need persuaded). That should then give access to the inner valve assembly.

OK thanks so lefty loosey on the outer ring is correct next step just need to get myself some giant circular wrench and some limescale eater then. Would wd40 be a good idea in there too? Thanks for the help

Boa wrenches are great for that kind of thing- no risk of scratching the chrome

Cor blimey nearly gave myself a hernia but it's off, so I guess the cartridge is all the brass parts - if I just take it all up to the local plumbing shop they should be able to sort me out thanks guys perseverance pays off

If it's reasonably common, there are literally hundreds of different kinds though.

I have no idea will check online to see if there's anything that looks like it - that top piece is the cartridge itself I assume. The problem I was having is that it would go from hot to cold within a 2 degree turn of the temp control - so it's right to replace the cartridge right? Probably should have started with that question
