Apple AirPort Base Station

I have bought an AirPort Base Station to link my stereo to my PC wirelessly. PC is wireless enabled LAN 802.11g. The base station does not pick it up though. It flashes orange which according to Apple manual means that no signal is detectable. The software supplied also fails to load saying no network can be found. The wireless connection data icon on the PC says it is enabled but the signal is very low. Despite the software not loading properly if I play a track from itunes it now plays via the stereo but only intermittently, like a badly tuned radio station. Does any one have any advise?

If the wireless adaptors have detachable antenna, then buy some with a higher gain. The higher you get them, the better.

How far apart are the devices?

The devices are only a couple of meters apart so well within range. They don't have antennas so nothing to raise.

Another thing to try is to see if there are any firmware upgrades for the wireless devices.
