Just to clarify, I had another account and used to use GD as well as the DIY forums. I left as I was fed up with the attitude of some members.

I later realised I had this ancient account when I needed to ask a DIY question, I occasionally glance at GD, but there's absolutely no point engaging as the usual suspects ruin every decent discussion, hence this thread
I remember you

You left in a huff because you made uninformed opinions about brexit and politics and when your arguments were taken to pieces you left in a strip.

As I said above, you don’t like GD because it upsets your cognitive bias.

How many times are you planning to flounce out?

I'm not sure I did...

I said goodbye to a troll and hit ignore, is that "flouncing out" in your world?

Out of interest, in non-internet world, is that the sort of thing you'd say to someone?

I thought you'd left. I said bye

So who was I then?!

Having a decent discussion on an internet forum is very difficult. It lacks the immediacy you need for a really good conversation. It is always going to be very different.

I can’t remember the username it was quite a while back.

I recognise the attitude though, you used to write opinions but then got upset when they got challenged.

Debate is about talking to people with differing views…otherwise it’s just an echo chamber.

I learn most from people I debate with, that I disagree with, it forces me to challenge what I believe and research further.

i only ever select "new threads " i never ever look anywhere else
i will look at the title have a look at sentiment and will only add iff i think my thoughts can help

i dont generally answer with an opinion unless its an actual request for help where my opinions are useful
i dont join debates in general as i have a life as such being helpfull as best as i can ;)

It’s easy to forget that.

And politics is very tribal so debates break down into insults.

I don’t care how rude people are to me….personal attacks in a response just make me look for the weakness in the argument presented.

Pointless thread. This section is called General, not General DIY.
Many forums have "pub" or similar sections not associated with the main theme or purpose of the forum. So what?
Some exclude religion or politics, but I assume this one allows all, for the purposes of Ad revenue.
