I want to put a toilet system in the attic.
Questions are:
Chemical or water?
Do I need a plumber or a builder?
Is it a complicated expensive task?
What is the latest technology or is a loo a loo no more or less?
Thank you

If it’s chemical, are you prepared to carry it down from the loft to empty it? Definitely water. I’d say plumber. Where is the soil stack in comparison to the proposed position of the toilet? Is the soil stack cast or plastic?

Water every time, chemical loo will smell in time no matter how you clean one. And plumber over a builder and you will need a handwash basin.

They do not need to smell, modern ones, with the right chemicals and sealed do not smell. The type they have in modern caravans are fine. They do a type which is fitted and a similar portable version, not that I am suggesting such as a permanent solution....

A normal flush toilet is the best thing, a major compromise because they can be more troublesome - is the macerator type, which can use a much smaller discharge pipe.

Over time they will smell I have found.

Heck no! So def water. It is plastic. The toilet can be positioned on the outside wall above the bathroom directly above the existing toilet. Existing soil pipe is on that same wall one flight down.

Wash hand basin of course. Had not got that far in my thought plan.

You will need both a plumber to do the plumbing and a builder to build the room, fit the door etc.
Then an electrician and then a plasterer.

It makes a big difference if you can run any pipes along a joist rather than over a joist.

Plenty of posts such as:
In the 'Building regs' section.

Will appreciate confirmation from anyone.
Installing a toilet where no toilet currently exists is notifiable work.

All of it will need to comply with building regulations, which includes the toilet itself, waste and water connections, suitable ventilation for the room, provision of hand washing facilities, and if this 'attic' isn't already a properly converted space, all of the structural, access and fire considerations as well.

It will not be quick, easy or cheap.

Oh please . enough with the big scary words. ......Building control :censored: .
it can be quick easy and affordable. get on with it , it’s a bog and wash basin ffs . hardly a double extension .

This thread must be a wind up. Who in their right mind would ask 'Chemical or water toilet'?. When this is going into a loft conversion with a bathroom below!
