Good Morning All.

Could anyone assist with this
Property moved into have these open vents to the outside x 2.
Obviously for ventilation for bathroom but at the same time as we go into winter open for cold air to home in.
Is there anything that can be fine attached. Changed.?

Thanks in advance.

Cowl vent on outside throws off rain and has a single flap, shielded from the wind, to prevent cold air blowing in.

I expect you have a 100mm fan which is the builders favourite.

It might be that you are in a rental property that has a previous history of condensation, damp and mould due to occupants refusing to ventilate, so the owners have provided extra ventilation to combat it.

Damp is a worse problem than fresh air.

There is a cowl vent on the outside but no flap.
This is a new build 5 years old private rental properties

Thank you for replies

If you keep the bathroom door shut, it will prevent cold air blowing in through the ventilators because it has nowhere to go and will not blow into the rest of the house.

The arrangement in your home looks like it is intended to deal with a condensation and damp problem. It might be that a previous occupant used to have steamy showers and was reluctant to use a fan.

Condensation and mould are very injurious to health and to the building fabric.

I don't know how bad the damp problem is, or if the ventilation is excessive.

All the properties we’re built like this as new with each one having the same

I was just wondering as the amount of vold Air they let in the winter as just completely open to outside . Thanks

If the door is shut and the fan is not running, not so much.

You could fit hit-and-miss covers, but damp and condensation will increase, which can be very bad in a bathroom.
