I've asked to replace these door bars round the doormat.

Anyone got any good ideas to make it neater and not a foot hazard. Dont really want to put the same door bars back down

Replace with something new just a bit more subtle. You can get ones that are formed with just an angle but you risk damage to the edge of the boards if they're not very slightly proud of the boards. It begs the question how neatly have the boards been cut around the mat? If they're anything but dead straight it will look awful with just an agle against them.

I would use something metal with as low a profile as practicable, that can be firmly fixed to the floor to minimise it being kicked out of place again.

We have some brass strips, made for the purpose. You can get up to 2 inch wide. Came from Volante, a flooring-only specialist. Thin edge, slightly curved, about 4mm in the middle. Holes pre-drilled for small screws which will inevitably be in the wrong places and screws supplied too short. They needed careful drilling and countersinking for long thin screws so the screw head holes are small, I used brass "hinge screws". Screwed down well there are no upstanding edges.
Brass is stronger than ally, it never dented in years, and goes as dull as you let it, or not. Mitred when tilted to the right angle, on a chop saw.
I can't find a pictue online so maybe it's harder to get now.....
but the shape is like this
