Hello.

Following on from the thread "Thunderbird", I'm considering scrapping both Zimbra and Thunderbird.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Evening,

I take it it's a bog standard free webmail client your after ?... if so, a couple of weeks ago Micromart ran an article on just this and tried a few of them.

I'll list the ones scoring 8 or more below. All are reported as being any pc / any os

(i personally use hotmail...has always worked fine for me over the years without missing a beat, although i do know a few peeps who use gmail and zoho without any problems as well)

Zoho mail www.zoho.com
Gmail [mail.google.com]
GMX www.gmx.co.uk
Hotmail www.hotmail.com
Yahoo! Mail [mail.yahoo.com]
Bigstring www.bigstring.com
Mail.com www.mail.com

The conclusions were Zoho mail and hotmail were the preferred choices although these might not suit you..only you'll know i'm afraid.

Hope this helps a little

Bolty

Client and service are two separate things.

Personally I use Thunderbird without much issue, however friends of mine recommend Claws.

I'm personally a Thunderbird user and I really can't fault it. I also used Evolution Mail for a while but the HTML rendering engine was poor, other than that there were no major issues. However, that isn't available on Windows.

I've been using TrulyMail for a year now and I really like it. I found Outlook simply too buggy and Thunderbird (at the time) just didn't have all the features I wanted.

Guys

Thanks for your comments.

I'm resurrecting this thread rather than start a new one as it's related.

I had problems with Zimbra receiving email sent to me via my old company address (call it abc.co.uk which is still valid). Madasafish (who are hosting the company website & related email addys) suggested that Zimbra was not working. So, as an experiment, I downloaded Thunderbird, which I could receive the email on, but which regularly emptied the inbox...

Now I've set up email on my eldest's PC, using Evolution Mail (I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on his PC). He can send me email to simon@ abc.co.uk, he can send himself email (to william@ abc.co.uk), but when I send email to him, it ends up not in his inbox, but mine...

Now I've spoken to Madasafish and they can't see why.

Can you?
