Black iron gas pipe

Hello,

I'm in the process of decorating my kitchen and had a gas safe plumber round to fit a new gas hob. The old hob was connected with a black flexible hose which I guessed would need replacing.

When the plumber came he had a look and said where the pipe came out of the wall it was black iron which he wasn't expecting and he'd have to come back another day with some new fittings.

The gas supply enters the house in the garage in a steel pipe to the meter then from the meter one pipe goes in copper to the boiler in the garage and one goes in steel pipe down the wall and through to wall below internal slab level.

So it's it unusual to have black iron to the where the pipe come out of the wall behind the oven? The house was only built in 1976 so I'd have thought it would be built pretty standard.
 
iron pipe is normal for gas, but a gas hob should not be fixed with a rubber gas hose if it's above an oven,
It needs to be rigid pipe with isolating valve
 
Our house was built with gas in iron to cooker and fire poker. Usually iron or copper is normal.

What was he expecting, HEP2O?
 
As above, sounds like you've employed a bit of a muppet; converting from iron to copper really isn't difficult and the required adapters should be standard van stock
 
Thanks guys. Yeah I was expecting from what is read on here he'd repace it with a fixed connection and put an isolation value in.

I was just quite interested if the set up in my house was unsual or not. Doesn't sound particularly.

Photos attached of the (top be replaced) hob connection and where the rubber hose connects to the pipe out of the wall for anyone interested.

Nothing particularly odd about that beyond having an incorrectly-installed hose connecting your hob. Iron end just needs a standard fitting
