BMW 1 series timing chain

Can I replace the timing chain on on 1 series with engine in situ? Anyone done this? I recognise it'd be easier with engine out of course. I do have access to a vehicle lift so, whilst still fidly, it does remove some of the struggle.

Please, no suggestions of "take it to a garage". This is a DIY forum and I (my son) do have experience of replacing engines and full rebuilds. Just not done this one as yet.
