Boiler and motor control valve issues

Help please

We had a new Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30cdi system boiler fitted just over 2 years ago by a large power provider. Came with a free two year maintenance contract which ended two weeks ago. Last service was carried out under that contract in February. Over the last few weeks since then it has been misbehaving as noted below. As we have a Worcester Bosch 10 year guarantee I didn't renew the maintenance contract intending just to get an annual service from local plumber.......

There's a honeywell 2 port motor control valve in the flow for each of HW and CH.
When the main control is set for HW and CH and HW is called for and room stat calling for CH all seems to work.
However, when HW is no longer called for it all stops and we don't get CH.
But, if I switch off HW at the main control and CH is called for, the boiler starts CH correctly.

Before I get a plumber out to have a look, I wondered if anyone could help please ?

Just seems to have started since the last service and all was OK before then.

It's almost as if the HW MCV is overriding the CW MCV but if the HW is off, the CW MCV works OK.

A competent heating engineer will be able to carry out a full on-site diagnosis for you. Tell them the symptoms, but don't try to tell them how to fix it - that is up to them to work out

A comptent plumber will not need and possibly be annoyed by being pointed in the right direction. An up and coming engineer should have his own support network/company for such pointing.


Otherwise you don't want an engineer that needs pointing in any direction.

Pointing professionals in any direction other than where they naturally want to start can just drag out the process.

Concentrate on getting a decent cuppa ready instead (y)
 
sounds like you have a faulty end switch or lazy synchron motor but a decent engineer will suss it for you, and I love Coylumbridge Used to have a timeshare there
 
Great - many thanks everyone. Am now wishing we had kept on the maintenance contract :rolleyes: rather than just using the boiler guarantee and getting an annual service. Am away to find a good local plumber.

Maintenance contracts usually cost more than they save - they're there primarily to make money for the provider of such contracts. Much better to keep the money in your bank account, and the number of a good local engineer in your phone

You keep saying plumber - it is an heating engineer you need, not a plumber. A plumber fixes pipes, an heating engineer will/ should be able to understand and fix the electrical controls on the system and any boiler issues.
 
Having experienced the unreliability of the W.B. programmer, this is the first area I would look at. A simple multimeter test would prove the unit, or otherwise. New modules are available for about £35.
 
I'm assuming the built in programmer.
yes mate i gathered that from your post that is why i am asking the op, he has said that he has an s plan, is the internal programmer not only for use with the worcester diverter kit ?
 
what programmer are you using
if you mean the main control panel external to the boiler, it's a Honeywell and is working normally.

Apologies for using the term plumber - just shorthand for the local guy who advertises Heating, Plumbing and Gas Services.

On further testing:
CW and HW required and all work fine. When HW no longer required, boiler switches off.
So I switched off the HW at the main controller/programmer and switched on CH only - works fine and gives CH.
Yet when HW switched on and not needed, boiler goes off.
It's all just started since the last service.

As suggested above, I don't want another contract so will just contact the local heating engineer.
