Wondering if there are any solutions to prevent the heat from this flue causing the soffit (and facia) above it from expanding and contracting and therefore making a ticking type noise.

I was thinking a sheet of aluminium or similar to deflect the heat?

Fascia and soffit appears to be wood, that will not tick, but the gutter is plastic and will tick as it expands and contracts through the brackets. Water proof grease on the brackets to gutter interface, will help.

What's the story here...that wall/roof looks new and the flue is a bodge.

wall is 1970's boiler is several years old at least. soffits, facias and gutters about a year or so old.

The soffit/gutter should have a heatshield running under it for protection...aluminium is often used.
The flue flat plate should be against the wall...but the installers didn't cut the flue to suit.
Whats' the boiler/model...surely it's 30 years+ old?

Cheers for the replies.
I dont think the actual boiler matters. Its something to do with either the gutter or the soffit/facia expanding. Can easily get someone in to fit a sheild and some grease to the relevant parts.

Cheers all.

Well given the fact that you thought the boiler was several years old but is more like several decades old knowing the make and model allows us to make a better judgement and advise eg. known safety issues etc.
