Boiler not Igniting 24

Hi

Can someone please help, my Worcester Junior 24i boiler is not Igniting. The pressure did drop before I noticed and I've fixed that. Now there's no green light but I hear a lot of ticking after I reset it. I think the pressure dropped because we turned on a rad that was off for a long time....maybe.

I think the boiler is around 10 years old

Do you mean in the reactivated rad?

The blue light is also slowly flashing if that matters?

Open unused rad = pressure drop
Top up pressure = get air out
If your boiler is at top of system or is in upward loop, you need to get air out of boiler... That's first guess, based on your description.

Thanks. I'll bleed all the rads today and if that doesn't work I'll try to then get the air out of the combi

Are you sure you didnt turn the gas isolation tap off bt mistake, when re-pressurising the boiler ?

Pretty sure, the only lever I touched was the black one on the hose. I saw a small red lever a bit further in and went nowhere near it. Would that be the gas isolation?

no the gas one will be yellow, check it is open, if you can hear the boiler sparking then everything else is ok , it is not getting gas

Don't see a yellow leaver, only the red one which is further in.

I tried the temporarily upping the pressure to see if that would force any air out but no difference. Not too sure what else would be safe for a novice to try. Would it take around 24hrs from when the rad was turned on for the air to get into the boiler? Heating was working fine intially after the reactivation.

Have you another gas appliance you can use to test if you have gas?
That and making sure the system is pressured and no air is about all you can do as a novice.
Also check your condensate drainage isn't blocked.

Gas hob is fine

It was serviced on Friday and all was fine, the engineer got the rad working at the end. I know where the condensate pipe is but wouldn't know how to check if blocked. Also wouldn't know how to check if there's air in the boiler.

BG had a cancellation and came today and resolved.

Turns out the lever on the gas meter under the stairs was knocked shut a bit, enough gas coming through for cooker but not open enough for boiler. My guess is it was done by the large electrician on Friday who squeezed himself under the stairs. Luckily I used the BG home care cover but still the £99 excess kinda wasted. Could have been worse I suppose.
