Hi am looking to replace my alpha cb24 this month as it keeps loosing pressure and it's old non condensing pretty 2005. Don't want to repair it. We have a baby due soon. My thinking is will be using more gas / heating so better to have something efficient.

We have a 3 Dbl bedroom semi with a large L shape lounge separate kitchen, hallway, utility room (where boiler is) and floor to ceiling open plan landing from stairs. 1970s build

Below is what I am getting quotes for.

Is there anything else I should consider ?
How much am I likely to pay ? I live in the essex area

I've found the boiler, flu and filter for a total of 1250 ££

Description of works below

SUPPLY AND FIT - 29cdi 30kW WORCESTOR BOSCH GREENSTAR CLASSIC COMBINATION BOILER

INCLUDING COPPER PIPES & MATERIALS

CENTRAL HTG FILLING LOOP WITH CHECK VALVE

INSTALLATION OF NEW CONDENSE PIPE FROM BOILER TO DRAIN SOURCE UP TO 2 METERS

INSTALLATION OF STANDARD 600mm LONG HORIZONTAL FLUE

INSTALLATION OF WORCESTOR BOSCH GREENSTAR SYSTEM FILTER

COMMISSIONING NEW BOILER

A MAGNACLEANSE DUAL FILTER MAGNETIC FLUSH (POWERLUSH) AS REQUIRED TO COMPLY WITH THE BUILDING REGULATION FOR ENGLAND & WALES, PART L - 2006 (BS 7593)

A FINAL INHIBITOR ADDED TO SYSTEM TO PREVENT CORROSION

GAS CERTIFICATE - CP12

BENCHMARK CHECKLIST + WARRANTY

INVOICE (LETTERHEADED)

Sorry about the caps.

You sound just like the customer that we would all love to have the chance to quote for!

I would say that if you get a decent quote thats within budget then take it as he's the one that hasn't put the TW*T tax on and is willing to work with you.

Good luck and Merry Xmas.

Jon

Site not seen, I would be starting at £1750 labour plus plumbing materials subject to visual inspection of site and present installation

SUPPLY AND FIT - 29cdi 30kW WORCESTOR BOSCH GREENSTAR CLASSIC COMBINATION BOILER (£2500)

INCLUDING COPPER PIPES & MATERIALS (£1 -£5000 depends on size and run?)

CENTRAL HTG FILLING LOOP WITH CHECK VALVE (I'll charge you £100 to supply and fit if you are sure you really want one?)

INSTALLATION OF NEW CONDENSE PIPE FROM BOILER TO DRAIN SOURCE UP TO 2 METERS (£200 any more than that and its £20 per mm)

INSTALLATION OF STANDARD 600mm LONG HORIZONTAL FLUE (£200 providing fluing situation is adequate I'll even make good at that price)

INSTALLATION OF WORCESTOR BOSCH GREENSTAR SYSTEM FILTER (£200 I don't mind fitting overpriced tat that doesn't work)

Now, as you can tell I'm taking the mick but you have come on a DIY site not a price comparison site and with a crap attitude to boot. Get guys in that know what they are looking at. By trying to micro manage every detail you are on a hiding to nothing. There are many things wrong with what you are asking for already so be prepared for a spanking when being quoted if you continue that attitude as it's obvious you have no clue what you are talking about.

Out of interest, do you have a Which? subscrition by any chance?

Also get BG in to quote. Bet I'm still cheaper!!!!

Thanks for reply. I note this is DIY site. At the same time I know there are arrogant negative looking people like you lurking on here. Some of the threads I have read look like a **** take.

You claim there are already things wrong in what I am asking for? Care to elaborate sherlock. This was my primary request in the post.

Your generalisation of putting me in the which reader bucket don't help. I guess you came to that conclusion because I picked a WB and not Valiant or Intergas. Another thing I won't be calling in BG they are wasters. 4k plus quote I can imagine

Ive recently had two boilers fitted at my parents and sisters thou there are away from Essex. Hence to requests above.

The saying goes. If you have nothing good (useful) to say, then stay mute.

Given your awful attitude thus far, I suspect most of the pro's on here will be following this last piece of advice from you. You seem like the worst kind of potential customer, and will end up with someone who's desperate for work (and therefore likely to not be very good) doing your job, because anyone worth their salt will walk away

For starters WB boilers are rubbish & most combi replacements we do are no smaller than 35KW, regardless of the size of property.

The Ideal Logic Combi 35 is a cracking wee boiler, long warranty & of all the 100's we have fitted - very, very limited problems. The Ideal Vogue 40 is a peach of a boiler, with roughly the same HW flow rate as some unvented cylinders. Then there's the range of Intergas boilers, without question one of the best, if not the best, in the UK market today. What about the Baxi/Potterton range? They have wonderful great value Combi boilers, like them all, fitted correctly they're bomb proof!!

Consider using a heat only boiler with a hot water cylinder. The space the cylinder will take up is a small price to pay for the convenience of an airing cupboard ( babies create a kot of washing ). You will also have a good supply of hot water without the the problems of the temprature changes that occur with combi boilers when two taps re turned on.

Where was the bad attitude in his original post? Why are you all so sensitive to someone checking a quote?

Seriously?? You think a professional is going to confirm a fixed price quote for someone on a daft forum??
Not seeing the job, not knowing the local conditions, not knowing the fabric or construction of the building, not knowing where the existing is sited.......etc etc etc!!

There speaks the voice of someone who's not got a fecking clue what he's talking about!! Fitted many 40KW Combis rsole??

No, never fitted a combi. But I have stayed in houses where a combi has been fitted.

Having a shower in those houses can be hazardous when someone turns on a hot tap.

The suddem change from hot shower to cold shower is at best not comfortable, it can result in a fall as the person tries to get away from the cold water..

When the hot tap is turned off and the shower once again has hot water then the time taken for the shower thermostatic valve to react is long enough for the un-expected hot water to scald the person in the shower.

Probably why two people I know last year had their combi replaced by heat only.

And mind your language, it reduces your credibility even more than it is already.

You must be replying to the wrong person because I never said anything like that.

You still haven't shown me where the bad attitude was in his first post.

You big sensitive fairies.
