Bonding or sand & cement?

So I'm a little confused as to what the plasterer is supposed to be doing having had some different advice.

I've taken the walls back to brick in my 1930s victorian home. I have spotted some damp in the kitchen so got a damp specialist in to have a look. He noted some of the work of the plasterer and said that he should NOT be using bonding on the walls (especially near the sockets) as it attracts moisture especially as its on the ground floor. He said sand & cement should really be used as this will protect against any issues with salts coming through the brickwork.

So is he right?

Absolutely, Gypsum plaster should NOT be used. 2 coat sand and cement render should be used, with a waterproofer in the scratch coat. Lime render is another option.
Also, make sure all sources of damp are corrected too.

See attached. It looks like gypsum. I've told the builder to take off and replace with sand and cement.

Best way. Gypsum plaster is no use at all where there is damp, especially on a solid wall.
