My electrician is baffled by a problem involving several lights on a circuit. When all, or most, are on there is no problem until one (any one) is turned off. This causes the circuit breaker to trip.

Has anyone encountered this before?

It is not an unusual occurrence, there are number of reasons of think why this happens and would possibly depend on whether the switches are double pole or single pole.
There could be a stored current within one of the lighting components that creates a imbalance when the switch is opened or it could be that when opened that the neutral and line do not disconnect at the exact same and possibly the line a little before the neutral.
