Hi everyone,

Can you please advise a complete thermostat novice. I am looking to replace mine with something more programmable (like 7 days schedules, wireless but not necessarily app-controlled).

The one we inherited from the previous owner keeps losing connection to the boiler, “No RF” and a battery pull every few hours. It looks just like those Hive ones, but has “British Gas” written on it and marked SLT2 V4 at rear. The receiving box says Model SLR1. And the boiler is British Gas and looks suspiciously like Worcester 532. I attach the pix.

Can I replace the thermostat with a 7-day programmable one without replacing the existing receiver? If yes, which one would do? And if not, what would you suggest I do?

Thanks a lot.

Yes the boiler is a Worcester rebadged for Bg. No you can’t replace that without replacing the receiver. Are you using Alkaline batteries in the existing thermostat?

Plenty of programmable thermostats on the Market if you do want to replace, a good one is supposed to be the EPH combi pack 4.

Thanks for your help Chris, and the batteries tip. I replaced the rechargeables with alkaline ones and will start looking at replacing both the thermostat and receiver now.

Thanks Ian!
Would that mean that I could upgrade it by just getting a Hive hub and connecting it to the existing stat & receiver?
And if not, would it be more straightforward (wiring-wise) to replace my existing setup with a new Hive active or something similar?

That is the early hive that BG brought out

All done, and a brand new Hive Active is heating my home. Boosted by the ever renewable energy of wise people like Chris and Ian here.

Replacing the receiver took no time and effort at all. Followed by a quick hub & stat setup via the app. So far so good.

Huge thanks to you guys!!
Take care

Glad all woking for you mate, great systems for little money, a little tip, dont throw away the back plate that came with the new setup the links on the back can become worn , not common but have seen it, so if it happens the wiring is a straight swap for the brand new one that you have
