Hi,

A builder bought the house next door which has been completely renovated.

He has put a new Marley tiled roof on next to ours which is originally clay tiles. At the front of the house he’s installed a bonding gutter but as you can see from the picture the clay tiles are not aligned with lots of big gaps.

To the rear he originally installed a bonding gutter but the roof tiles were all at an angle! He then removed the bonding gutter with a secret one. However, there’s a big gap, the lower part of the secret gutter is visible and the tiles don’t look. Well fixed in place. Also, the roof ridge tile looks a complete mess.

I have confronted him about this and he’s adamant it’s fine.

Any advice or guidance is much appreciated!

Thanks

His house is the one with the new dorma I assume? That work is a rough as anything.

Assuming he just been doing a loft conversion that I assume he's been doing work on the party wall. Did he get you to sign a party wall agreement? If not then talk to the CAB about getting an injunction; it's most likely too late now but if he has any other work planned then it might save you. This work is also notifiable to building control; you should call them and tell them you have concerns - someone will to do that poor a job I suspect hasn't told them; so this will get them on him. Also - did he have planning approval for this? It might be permitted development but if not then they won't be happy either.

Do you know a friendly surveyor who could give a 3rd party opinion ?

I suspect the man's a brickie - he certainly isn't a roofer! Or a joiner for that matter.
