Hi there.

Looking for some advice, I've opened up a builders opening to it's original 1911 spec, due to the many different fireplaces over the years, the lintels installed by gas fitters have chewed up some of the column bricks, left side being the worst.

I've done a a fair bit myself replacing bricks internal to the pillars where old pipes/wiring lead to a back boiler and removal of a big concrete slab where the boiler lived.

A few bricks on the arch itself need resetting/replacing, far left & right and middle.

The easiest DIY approach for me is to re-plaster and fireboard the inside pillars, I've pointed and sorted the back which was covered in soot.

If I were to peel all the facing plaster off I've discovered 2 slabs which protrude flush to the bricks, so not totally sure how it'll look.

If I get a pro into do the brick replacing will it be an expensive outlay?

I've added some pics.
