Hi

Toying with the idea of making a simple bunk bed for my boys, ide sooner try knock a few pieces of wood together than pay whatever!

This link I found looks simple enough to try seeing as I have never built one

http://www.bunkbeds.uk.com/ekmps/sh...id-pine-bunk-beds-or-two-single-beds-54-p.jpg

Also the usual way that the head of a bed is attached to the long pieces is with a bolt into a barrel, what would be the easiest way to drill these holes

Cutting the wood to length am fine with that its the next bit am thinking about and if I need to buy any special tool

Any help would be great

if you are doing it as a challenge then go for it
if you are doing it to save money you will be disappointed at how much more you have to pay after all your hard work

wood will cost around £120 matresses 50-£80

Why would all the wood cost £120, also my boys have mattress's on their current beds

Would normal pine softwood be good enough for this

Thanks

go and price up the wood and you will be shocked, plus the joints need to be strong or it will collapse

12m 6x1" par £30 bed frames
8m 2x2"par £15 legs
7m 3x1" par £8 ladder
12m 1x1"par £5 bearers for slats
22m 4x1"par £33 slats

assorted fixings £10

12m 3x1"par £15 rails

£116 ?????
not including varnish

Glad you shown me that link, for what you get for £119 compared to what you would spend to make them am very surprised

This reminds me of the "Can you build me a garden shed" I don't want the flimsy rubbish ones for £200! No, is normally my answer, but I can build this for £1500 which will last for 25 years, I don't get to many jobs like that. The cost of materials is ludicrous.
