I’m trying to remove the brass thermostatic valve, per original instructions. Managed to get everything off to find the retaining sleeves completely tiled and grouted in. Had a “professional “ do tiling, and a plumber do the plumbing 10 years ago.
Question: do I have to break through the tile or is there another way?
Thanks in advance

Unless you have the correct tool to remove the retaining lock ring/nut and then once that's removed that the widest part of the thermostatic valve is smaller than the retaining sleeve, then the tile will need to be cut. Luckily enough though the cover plate will hide a multitude of sins, so it just needs the tile cut and removed very cleanly.

An experienced pro shouldn't have an issue with that. Do you have replacement tiles?

Hi yes I have replacement tiles, and thanks for the helpful reply. I’ve crossed it off my diy list (like him indoors told me I should ) and I’ve called my local handyman, builder and a plumber recommended by a pal. Hopefully it’s not a complicated fix and someone will have time to do it as we are regulating the temp via the boiler at the moment
