Hi all
just required a roller shutter with tube motor. door will be 4m high. cable is about 1.5 long. whats the best way to extend cable, so we can use control buttons from ground.

What sort of cable is it? Could you post a photo of the cable with it's cores please.

its a 4 core black that comes with the motor.dont have a picture at the mo. earth blue black brown.

You'll have earth, neutral and two live connections (a brown and a black) for the two different phases of the motor operation: up and down. The cable will be something like 0.75mm-1mm CSA multicore. Use electricians BUTT Connectors which are crimped using a semi-ratchet tool like this. This will provide a strong and electrically safe connection for the cores, but you'll still need a secondary form of insulation to replicate what the sheath does. If you stagger the butt connectors then you can get a nice finish with heatshrink that makes a fairly compact inline connection overall. Alternatively you could always just bring the cable ends in to an IP junction box.

What if it is a ELV cable with data being sent from the controller to the motor?
