Can I get away with using pea gravel in my mix for footing (small project)?

Hi all,

I've a small garden wall to build this summer. It's only to be 7 courses of brick high and barely 3m long. It'll retain some soil (with drainage installed behind leading around either end of it) but isn't structural for any weight on top.

I've dug out my trench for the footing and I have plenty of cement, a tonne of sand and....as it happens, a tonne of fairly dirty pea gravel that used to be on the driveway. I do realise that 10mm/20mm ballast mix would be best, but I'd love to get rid of the pea gravel. I've been waiting for an opportunity to use it for something.

Would you..? Or will I regret it?

Cheers,

Tom
