Can I replace British Gas Wireless Thermostat WL2 with a Nest Thermostat E?

I have bought a Nest Thermostat E; the existing thermostat is a British Gas Wireless Thermostat Wl2.
There is no wiring on the thermostat itself but on the receiver.
The wiring doesn't align to examples in the Nest fitting instructions so I not clear what to match with what.

Is it possible to replace a British Gas Wireless Thermostat WL2 with a Nest Thermostat E?

Can you advise how the wiring should be on the nest given how the receiver is set-up?

Are you sure that’s the correct Nest wiring diagram? Looks like the USA version.

Edited: after some research, it appears that Common (possibly your number 1) will go to common and n/o number 3 would go to n/o. Be careful as it’s not good practice to use an earth wire (green/yellow) as a live wire. Might want to switch it to brown.

Any other photos or descriptions of how it’s wired the other end? Have you already bought a nest e?

British Nest e has 5 connections, OT1 and OT2 are only used with OpenTherm boilers, on the other side never really work out what bottom one for, so just two terminals you can use,

so one and three on old i.e. as shown green/yellow with black tape and grey are only two wires used either way around it does not matter and the brown and black are not used need terminating safely i.e. a bit of chock block.

Since wrong colours are used I would rewire cable at other end, but for moment keeping it simple.

Hi both, thanks for responses. I'm still a little unclear / have some further questions.
Here are the pictures of my current set-up and of the Nest thermostat...(Yes I have "bought" (it's provided as part of my energy supply contract).
The picture I sent previously was from the instructions in the Nest App so may have been American.

One of my confusions(!) - Does the Nest Thermostat take the place of the receiver (the bottom box in the picture)? Obviously that would mean that the Nest Thermostat is in the boiler cupboard! (and not in the hall !!)

your setup is a bit more complicated than normal, if you want the nestE in the hall you are going to have to run a min 2 core flex to it would have been easier with a normal nest or Hive instead of the nest E , still doable but not straight forward

Thanks Ian. That's possible and not too bad as the boiler cupboard is next to the hall. Could you advise on the wiring to the Nest E given my existing set-up?

personally I would rip everything out and wire the Nest E straight into the boiler
