hi all, ive been left to sort out a sliding gate track, the concrete breaks up every few months, and the actual track is now moving up and down when a car goes over it. Gate company have gone bust so im going to try to tackle myself, plan was to buy a new track, the guy there asked is it cemented down or bolted down, and the track is just cemented down. he recommended that the track might still be usable but will need drilling and bolts.

i was thinking m8 bolts and then some resin to hold it down, then cement to finish it off or even some tarmac to neaten the edges up
this would be the resin i was going for resin link on screwfix

Or would this type of bolt be a better idea, and then i use a plastic sleeve in the ground and then use resin in that.

concrete bolts

sleeves

would the resin bolts be enough, its block paving so sub base will be mot type 1 and then sand?

thanks

You need a decent concrete footing of the appropriate strength and depth, and fix through into that.

I don't know anything about sliding gates, but that looks quite a narrow strip of concrete/mortar, I bet there's not much depth to it either

plan for the weekend, get the track up, cement underneath, at least 4inches i've read, then bolt and resin the track to the cement. hopefully fixes the issue

Started on the track this morning there is no foundation underneath it, slow going and whether I get it out how I think I will get it out I think I might need a new track which I don't think I can buy locally

Would anyone offer any advice to help, I have cleared out the track and gone done to the MOT type 1 sub base, it's pretty solid, would putting cement on that be enough or go further down?

To me it looks nowhere near wide enough or deep enough? Looking on google there's sites saying the concrete should be reinforced, 12" wide, 6" deep. Sounds overkill but that would stand the test of time, unlike what you're got now.

buy a lidl or aldi brushless angle grinder and some diamond disks to make a wider gap for the reneforcement to go underneath the track. Used carefully one diamond cutting disk would easily cut all of that for you.
