Can scaffolding be put on your roof without consent ?

I have a rental property where my tenant complained of water leaking through the ceiling.
It tripped the MCB and he didn't have power for a night, wet carpet and sofa. No heating as that's electric.

He mentioned that there was scaffolding next door.

When I arrived I was shocked that it is supported partly on my bay window roof.
Also on my land and upper roof.

There have been high winds to I'm guessing there could have been a lot of pressure on the roof.

Surely you cannot just put scaffolding on other people's property ?
Or can you ?

No they are not permitted to be on or use your property without consent. It unfortunately is a civil matter but a decent company would not go anywhere near your property without consent. It happened to me and I would not permit them access to remove it, this does create an issue, however these companies are so unprofessional it beggars belief. They caused damage to mine and even to date it has been left for me to do the repairs.

Hi,

The only mitigating factor may be if the scaffolding was for emergency repairs; where failure to act could cause harm to both properties - even then, the right thing to do would have been to try their hardest to contact you.

Does any of the work being carried out actually benefit you?

We'd always ask permission and give compensation in the way of say a 'rent' payment to use your property. However, these disputes usually come back to haunt those that wish to do the same later on.
