Can this CU manage an electric shower?

Perhaps TTC should have said 'A safety barrier'. It's there; that's all there is; may as well see if it still works.
I'm not disputing that, and I've explained why I made my comment.

Even with your suggested change of wording, would you normally describe a fuse or MCB as being "a safety barrier for you and your family" (let alone "the safety barrier ...")?

Hopefully TTC will put an end to this cross-examination, one way or another, by explaining what he meant!

500mA RCDs used to be installed in industrial premises as a fire cutout safety device. Perhaps they still are.
 
There are plenty of 300, 500 and 1000mA RCDs around providing fault protection, for fire protection 300mA or less is used. Some industrial RCDs can be adjusted as high as 30A
