I burned out the toroidal transformer on my EasyLite track (KIT-FX5M-04) light system.

My local supplier does not have the Toroidal Transformer and sold me a replacement that is regular rectangular flat 120 to 12V transformer. It has a hole in the center which allows the threaded nipple to pass through for installation.

Is this a problem? Can I use this substitute transformer on this track lite? My original was a 100 watt and the replacment is 150 W.

Thank you,

As far as I recal, the only technical difference with a torriadal transformer and a iron cored type, is the torriadal type are more efficent, some thing to do with Eddy currents, and losses in the core, I seem to remember. And it might buzz a bit louder.

i expect efreder has done it by now, he asked the question 5 months ago
