car pulling problem

im using a mazda 323 and its tapet is adjust automatically by oil preassure
my problem is when the engine heats up to its normal level the car doesnt pull as it should be and i can hear the tapet sound ( usually comes whn you try to pick up the car in a wrong gear )

what seems to be the problem
 
its probably not tappet noise but pre-ignition (pinking). either check the spark plugs and air filter is in good condition and that all vacuul hoses are not leaking or blocked or take it to the garage and get them to check it with their computer diagnostic machine
 
Sanjaya, it might be worth saying what age the car is. I am not a mechanic but I know that 323s have been made for at least 20 years.

I noticed your location so I checked on the internet and Sri Lanka phased out leaded petrol nearly 2 years ago. If your 323 is a very old one then perhaps the switch to unleaded is causing the problem?

This could cause pinking and it could also cause the valve seats to wear out prematurely, possibly causing the noise.
 
The 323 I believe was launched in 1978, Sri Lankans in the year 78 BC....
