Here's a before and after picture of the extension.





I had originally enviasged laying the bricks myself, but I simply din't have the time or confidence for such a big project.

A local builder did the shell and roof, and I've done all the inside so far except plaster skim.

I think they were about £1.80 each I still need to strip the existing 'cant' bricks. Until you mentioned it I'd never thought about sills to the front door, but we'll be putting a large (concrete) stone here anyway so I don't think it'll be out of place.

What are can't bricks

Cant bricks are typically used for feature brickwork where crisp clear lines are required e.g. corner details, window/door reveals, pier work. They can also be used for capping.

I did enquire, but the relative position of my house to the next door neigbour would have cast a shadow over their front window. Hence it would not have passed planning.

The total area of the extension is approximately 38m2. Labour cost to build the shell and knock through was £12,000 +vat. I supplied him with all the materials.
