CCTV/Record without Tv On

Hello,
My CCTV system did not come with good instructions for use.

I use my Smart TV as monitor for the NVR.

How can I leave the system to record without leaving the TV on?.

Doing my best to learn how to use it effectively.

Thank you for any advice.
 
Normally the TV/ monitor does nothing other than display the output from the NVR, the NVR would do the recording normally on its harddrive.

Indeed the only way i can think of getting the telly to record is to broadcast the signal from the NVR on a TV channel and then record that broadcast, which is possible but never have i known anyone set it up that way
 
Nitell, if your cctv system is on and recording, you can turn the TV off and the recorder will still record.
OR it should do, unless the recorder is part of the TV.

Having read your responses I realise where I went wrong.

I was logging off after viewing what was recorded and misread what appeared on the TV.
