You will need a source of amplification for the signal to power the speaker & one speaker will only give you Mono sound output.
On my system, I use an an old Sony power amp connected to the audio out jack on my sound card & wired the bathroom spekers direct from the back of the amp as normal. Nothing fancy for the cable, just use ordinary multi-strand speaker cable.

Most definitely & get some proper water proof ones or the cones will disintegrate under the effect of the steam in a very short time. There are many available but I’ve got a pair of these;

We've a pair of these in our shower room and one of these in the bathroom.
Wired with standard speaker cable (fairly thick as the runs are quite long), shower room powered by a mini-t-amp, bathroom with a larger t-amp with squeezeboxes as the source.

Blimey FourFootMedia, I’ve got some serious Dennon, Marantz & B&W audio & AV kit in my lounge but that seems a bit high end for some music to relax to in the bath let alone a shower room; with the sort of acoustics you’ll get in there, do you even notice the difference!
I am looking to upgrade the ageing Sony amp though (but even that was high end in it’s day) to either a Squeezebox or Stremium.

I assume the Squeezebox is a similar set up to the sonos system?
I used to be a marantz man, but since shelled out for some NAD masters kit and never looked back. Paired with some quality of B&W speakers it's superb.
Just waiting for us to find a house me and the missus like with a basement so I can do a nice home cinema down there.
I got the kef system ex-demo (literally demonstrated to one customer and re-boxed), and they knocked £100 off the price, so didn't cost much more than a decent pair of stereo ceiling speakers.
The QED's now in the shower room are what used to be in the bathroom
Yeah, squeezeboxes are similar to sonons. Already had a couple about the house (lounge and kitchen), so it just made sense to continue with them rather than getting in a different system.
